Nellie Leoni, age 89, transitioned to her next life on November 3, 2019. She will now rest peacefully with God and will reunite with her husband of 66 years, Libero, her son Anthony and her mother Paula. She is survived by her son, Dennis Leoni (Deborah) and daughters Arlene Leoni and Shelly Nichols, granddaughters Sierra Leoni (Nigel) and Selena Leoni. She loved her family, friends, cooking, music, dancing and “dressing to the nines”. She was a warm, vibrant and passionate mother who not only cooked delicious food with love but fed us emotionally. She was never too busy to offer a hug, a kiss, or words of comfort, love and encouragement. She was a fierce defender of justice and never hesitated to step in and speak up for the underdog or anyone being discriminated against. Over the many years of working part-time and full-time while and raising a family requiring rides and home cooked gourmet meals, she managed to volunteer and cook weekends for the young seminarians studying at the Regina Cleri Seminary, serve as the “coke lady” for son’s little league, actively participate in the AZ Democratic Party, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Columbiettes and other religious and charitable organizations. She was a devout Catholic, sports fan and a Mother or Nana to many, and she will be dearly missed.
